Its now common knowledge that I went to the UK for2 weeks at the beginning of June 2010. IT was a celebration of my parents 60th birthdays (earlier this year). It turned out to be so much more than that. We managed to squeeze in SOOO much into the 14 days - even locals were amazed at the stuff we managed to see and do.
This page is dedicated to the trip - my words and (some of) the over 3 000 photos taken will immortalize the trip in history and hopefully share with you the absolutely brilliant and amazing time we had whilst over there. We were truly blessed that everything went to plan and were treated so well by our family (the Laisters), both ones we know and ones we met for the first time. Thank you to all concerned. I can only pray we can do it again someday!
Pre Tour (up to 29th May 2010)
Loads of time was spent researching and asking around about the trip before the trip actually happened. I was not really involved because I was trying to focus my attention on my exams that ended on the day before (28th May) we left. I was kept in the loop my the main organisers being my wife Carrie, my parents and my brothers and their wives. I tried to add my 2c every so often.
After my exam my dad decided to celebrate by going out to dinner. This was a very good idea because I was very tired and it also gave my parents a chance to give Carrie her new camera! It is a very nice and very up to date Sony Cyber shot with every feature you can think of! She cried!
The following morning we woke up to an amazing day in Durban. we went to the beach. Carrie and my mom drive the car and my dad and I cycled on the tandem. It was so still and so perfect - very cool. We arrived at King Shaka International with plenty time to spare and headed off to the lounge for drinks and snacks. We almost missed our plane because the board was not updated when the plane boarded. That drama over - we were the last to board the plane and got to OR Tambo early enough to head off to the lounge for dinner and drinks. We made sure that we were not the last to board the plane to Heathrow, London. We joined the queue early and got comfortable in our seats.
Being our (myself and Carrie) first long flight - the excitement was palpable when we sat down and started playing with our DVD screens and deciding what to watch during the flight! There was a problem with the door so we were delayed somewhat before we could depart. Once that was sorted, we departed and it finally hit home that we were actually flying to the UK for a two week adventure of a lifetime. Until now it was still a dream.
